LIMA, Peru – Corporate social gatherings and dealings taking place in Peru expect to generate US$ 1.2 billion in revenues by 2016, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) has said.
Carlos Canales, Canatur’s President, assured the profitability of this segment as the usual participants to these international meetings, who are the so-called corporate travelers, spend up to three to four times more than a traditional visitor.
“We are talking about an average spending of US$ 350 to US$ 500 daily, the corporate tourist comes accompanied and stay an average of four to five days,” he told Andina news agency.
Likewise, Canales stressed that Peru’s capital Lima is needed of a world-class convention center and three major fair enclosures in order to position the city as a business hub in the region for holding corporate events.
In this regard, he hailed the government’s project for construction of a major convention centre in Lima’s district of San Borja, near the country’s National Museum, which is set to be ready by 2015.
