TANZANIA (eTN) – East Africa’s premier tourism fair, the Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair (KTTF), will be taking place in Tanzania’s northern tourist city of Arusha this weekend.

Organizers of the event said this year’s fair will open its doors on Friday, May 31 and will end on June 2. It is expected to attract participants from Asia, Europe, and North America, as well as from Tanzania and other African countries including Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The fair is expected to attract nearly 7,500 regional and international visitors.

The Karibu Fair is currently the largest exposition of its kind within the East and Central African region, the second largest travel industry event in Africa behind the INDABA event in South Africa.

The primary focus and supporting theme of “Sustainable Partnership” of the KTTF event will be to market East Africa as a single tourist destination and to raise the region’s profile by promoting East African tourism to the global consumer, organizers said.

It is expected that key stakeholders in the tourism industry throughout the East African region and Africa will come together to share opportunities available in tourism industry.

In addition, the event is intended to help the East African tourism industry come together with professionals, visitors, and overseas tour agents in order to create an opportunity for networking.

“Karibu Fair brings new destinations, facilities, and products to the attention of overseas tour agents; facilitating opportunities for overseas tour agents to visit the national parks and properties,” according to event organizers.

Reports available to eTN said that the Karibu Fair has, in the past, been responsible for generating direct spending in the local economy, but has also helped to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities through the development of small and medium travel trade enterprises.

Come October this year, the Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) will be launched in Tanzania’s capital city of Dar es Salaam as the first ever international annual program, and it is expected to draw hundreds of international tourism and travel intellectuals.

Dar es Salaam has been strategically selected as a place for staging the fair because of its geographical location; adequate air access; and the existing state-of-the-art and readily available infrastructure and amenities suitable for establishing an international tourism fair.

It is anticipated that SITE will focus on inbound and outbound travel to Africa and is expected to draw hundreds of tourism and travel professionals from all over the world. The expo will take the format of a travel and trade exhibition with a conference element focusing on topical tourism, sustainability, conservation, and other market-related issues.
